Dingwall KYLE KONKIEL SIGNATURE COMBUSTION

Dingwall KYLE KONKIEL SIGNATURE COMBUSTION

DINGWALL KYLE KONKIEL SIGNATURE COMBUSTION 5

THE KYLE KONKIEL SIGNATURE COMBUSTION IS BACK WITH A LIMITED-EDITION NEW LOOK. Kyle describes it as a bass built to be played, toured, and recorded—never just a showpiece. With the updated model in hand, he says it feels better than he ever imagined. The original Lamborghini-inspired signature model debuted in 2023 with a custom color-shift finish, a Nordstrand EQ, and an expanded pickup layout. The new version replaces the color-shift finish with Matte Army Green, upgrades the hardware with the new Minimalist bridge, and adds an EMG 3-band preamp for greater tonal flexibility. Limited to just 100 instruments, it still features the signature Combustion elements including a 34–37 inch multi-scale design, 24 banjo-size frets, and licensed Hipshot Ultralite tuners.

From a bass player’s perspective, there are still plenty of tone-shaping options thanks to three FD3n pickups, the EMG 3-band active EQ, and Dingwall’s Quad-tone switching system. As with the first edition, Kyle added a simple selector switch for the middle pickup, creating a total of eight unique pickup combinations. Kyle explains that Dingwall typically uses a four-way rotary control to select the bridge pickup only, bridge and neck in parallel, bridge and neck in series, or neck pickup only. The added toggle switch lets the middle pickup join any of those configurations.

This opens up tones such as the bridge and middle pickups together for a bright Music Man-style sound, the middle and neck for a focused P-Bass-like voice, or all three pickups engaged for a massive humbucker-style roar. Kyle notes that with Vimic he often uses the bridge and neck pickups in series, but emphasizes that this bass can get you wherever you need to go tonally, no matter the genre.
